This is a quick run-down on how to get started with the Free Company's Teamspeak server.

Download and Install

First things first, download the Teamspeak 3 client for your operating system from here and install it. Be sure to get the 3.x.x series client, and NOT the 2.x.x series.

Connect to the Server

Plug your mic/headset in BEFORE you start the Teamspeak client. If you connect your mic/headset in after you start the client, it may not recognise your mic, and you won't be able to talk. When the client starts you might be presented with the "Server List" window. You won't be able to find our server in this list, as ours is not publicly listed. Just close this window. To connect to our server, use the menu sequence Connections->Connect. It will bring up the manual connection window. Enter the following data:

Server Address = melchior.ddns.net
Nickname = <your character's name>
Server Password = <the password that is listed in-game on the FC's board>

After clicking the Connect button, you should now be connected to the Teamspeak server. Lastly, double click on the "Ether" channel in list of channels on the left of the client. You will be prompted to enter the pass word for the channel. Enter the channel password that is listed in-game on the FC's board. This is not the same as the server password. You should now be good to go.

Configuration

Teamspeak runs pretty well right out of the box, so you shouldn't have to do much configuration unless you want to. I suggest, as a minimum, that you configure your mic. To do this use the menu sequence Settings->Options. From here, click on "Capture" from the list on the left.

Choose between "Push-to-Talk" or "Voice Activation Detection", but don't use the "Continuous Transmission" mode, as this usually yields obnoxious results. If you choose "Voice Activation Detection", set the activation threshold by clicking on the "Begin Test" button. While talking at a normal level, move the slider till it is just inside the colored bar.

Lastly, click the "Advanced Options" check box to show more options. Ensure that the "Automatic voice gain control" check box is NOT checked.

That should do it for a basic setup,
Cheers!
